Shahrukh Khan's Zero hit the screens with huge expectations. However the film seems to be underwhelming as far the initial respsonse is concerned.
2018 saw the release of two big diappointmenrs, Race 3 and Thugs of Hindostan starring megastars Salman Khan and Aamir Khan. They were released on Eid and Diwali respectively and had massive budget. However both of these films failed at the box office and wrapped up under 175 crores.
Now it is Shahrukh Khan's turn and it is expected that he will maintain the dominance of Khan trio with the success of Zero. However the start is not that great. In fact the opening is lower than both Race 3 and Thugs of Hindostan.
Zero has opened to around 35% occupancy in the morning shows. In comparison Race opened to 50% (Excellent) and Thugs of Hindostan opened to 70% (Bumper). This was expected as Race 3 and Thugs of Hindostan were masala films and Zero is a romantic-drama. The advance booking of Zero was much lower than both films. Though it still has the advantage of Christmas and the holiday period.
The initial reviews are mixed to negative. The average rating so far is 1.90 which is slightly better than Thugs of Hindostan and Race 3 but is still on the lower side. The famous critics like Taran Adarsh and Anupama Chopra have given extremely negative reviews.
From the reviews and opening, it seems that Zero could be an another underwhelming film from Shahrukh Khan. Will it join the likes of Race 3 and Thugs of Hindostan? We will find out soon.
