Visaaranai is India's official entry to Oscars 2017

The Tamil film Visaaranai which has earlier won National Award, is all set to represent India at the upcoming Academy Awards. The decision was announced today by the selection committee of the Film Federation of India.


Visaaranai is a docu-drama crime-thriller and is based on the novel Lockup penned by M Chandrakumar, an auto driver from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The film produced by Dhanush featured Dinesh, Anandhi, Aadukalam Murugadoss. It has earlier won many accolades at other film festivals. The story revolves around police brutality and corruption.

Other films that were in the race includes Udta Punjab, Pink, Joker and Thithi.

  1. Oscars don't care about India, it's all about promoting western countries for them... Even great industries like Japan and Korea are very often ignored.

  2. please include JAI HU ....if possible or Sultan...all are block buster why not?
