2016 has opened to a mixed response for Bollywood. Wazir and Kya Kol Hin Hum 3 underperformed at the box office. On the other hand Airlift which is riding high on word of mouth, has turned out to be a big hit at the box office.
Now all eyes are on today's release Mastizaade and Saala Khadoos.
Mastizaade was released in approx 2000 screens. It has a decent start in the morning shows as the occupancy was up to 30-35%. The single screens and mass circuits were fair. The opening is similar to last week's release Kya Kool Hain Hum 3.
It can show growth as there is no major competition which was in the case of KKHH3. But the early reports are not encouraging for Mastizaade.
Saala Khadoos has a poor start with a occupancy of 10%. The opening was better in metro cities like Mumbai and Delhi but still it is poor. The film is largely dependent on word of mouth. But it has received mostly mixed reviews.
Akshay Kumar starrer Airlift has a very good start on its second Friday. The occupancy was around 20%. Though the screen count has been reduced. It is still going strong at multiplexes giving tough competition to Mastizaade and Saala Khadoos. It looks like that Airlift 2nd Friday collection will be comparable to new releases.
