Himesh Reshmmiya may not be considered as a big star of Bollywood but he did surprise the industry back in 2007.
Himesh was quite popular back then due to his back to back hit songs especially with Bhatt camp. He was making his Bollywood debut with Aap Kaa Surroor. Reportedly he also had a fallout with Bhatt camp.
Aap Ka Surroor released on 29 June 2007. The film clashed with Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and Dharmendra's Apne and Emraan Hashmi's Awaarapan.
The critics had panned the film and wrote it off, but the moviegoers had something else in mind. The trade went into shock when Aap Kaa Surroor took one of the biggest opening of the year. The occupancy on the first day was in the range of 95-100%. The opening was on par with the two biggest hits of last year, Dhoom 2 and Krrish.
According to the trade pundits, the curiosity was too much and everyone wanted to see how Himesh acted, and therefore I guess the film worked for the first weekend. There were falls in the second week and eventually the film was declared semi hit.
On the other hand the much hyped Apne took a record opening in North India but was poor or below average in all other places. Overall it was an average grosser.
The third release Emraan Hashmi's Awaarapan was severely affected by the clash. The film did manage to pick up after the first week. But the damage had already been done. The trade had an opinion that it would have done much better without clash. Today Awaarapan has gained cult status among youth and many consider it as Emraan Hashmi's best performance.
Now Himesh is back with the sequel Teraa Surroor. Can Himesh once again surprise the trade? Tell us what do you think in the comments section.
