The stage is all set for Prem Ratan Dhan Payo which is one of the most awaited films of 2015. Starring Salman Khan and Sonam, it will release on 12 November.
Director Sooraj Barjatya and Salman Khan is planning something big for their Diwali release. Reportedly, they have planned of paying the rentals to all single screen theatres all over India so that they can run the film in theatres as long as they want.
This means that a single screen theatre cannot pull down the film in 2 weeks if they want as they have already signed an undertaking which gives them their rental fare and restricts them from pulling down ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’. Earlier, Rajshri films had adopted this policy for its movie like ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’.
Interestingly Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone's Tamasha will release on 27 November. So this move has made been made so that single screens owner do not pull down PRDP for Tamasha.
Now the question is will single screen theatres adhere to such a contract? The reason may be yes. If they plan otherwise, they may not be able to screen 'Prem Ratan dhan Payo' at all. And who wants to lose out on a Salman starrer?
As for as multiplexes are concerned, they will definitely prefer Tamasha. But PRDP will affect Tamasha at single screens big time.
The trailer and the songs of Tamasha have received mixed response from the people so far. Though they have been liked by its target audience but the film will find it tough to attract audience at smaller centers.
This was also the case with a very good film like Drishyam which was affected by Bajrangi Bhaijaan's excellent run at the box office.
Now how will makers of Tamasha react to this situation. Only time will tell.
