Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat has done very well on its opening day despite facing protests and disturbance in many parts of the country. As per the official figures, the film has collected approx 19 crores on its opening day.
The film had no screening in three states (Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh) and only got a limited release in UP, Haryana and Bihar. Thus it lost about 30-35% of its market on day 1. Otherwise, it would have opened to 30 crores yesterday. If the advance booking was started with no troubles, then it could have been much higher.
But the extra buzz was only due to the controversy and that is why it could not get a proper release. Normally it would have opened to 20 crores. It also managed to collect 5 crore from the Wednesday previews which is a pretty decent number.
