Kapoor and Sons Review

This Friday we will witness a romantic-comedy-drama film starring Sidharth Malhotra, Fawad Khan, Alia Bhatt and Rishi Kapoor. The film has been directed by Shakun Batra and produced by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions.

The promos of the film have worked well and a hype has been built for the film. We are expecting a decent rom-com with some family drama. Let's move on to Kapoor and Sons review to find out if it lives up to the expectations.

Kapoor and Sons Movie Review

Te film tells the story of two brothers Rahul Kapoor (Fawad Khan) and Arjun Kapoor (Sidharth Malhotra)) who belongs to a dysfunctional family. They visit their parents Rajat Kapoor and Ratna Pathak and their grandfather Rishi Kapoor in Coonor. Their parents are struggling with their own marriage. Rahul and Arjun meet a girl Tia Singh (Alia Bhatt). In the mean time Rahul make a shocking revelation about his character which change the course completely. What happens next? Watch the film to find out.

Set in a modern family, is essentially a two-seater vehicle that excuses itself from the banal and hackneyed prescription, but endorses the longstanding theme of opposites magnetize. 20 minutes into the film and you will realize that it is not a regular rom-com. Everyone has his own story in the film which is quite new for Indian audience. Their screenplay is designed to appeal mainly to the youngsters in the cities. In other words, the drama, like the thought, is very urbane and while it will be loved by the multiplex and city audiences, it won’t quite be enjoyed by the audience in the smaller centres and of the single-screens.

The first half starts off very well and the audience enjoys the introduction of the various principal characters and the squabbles between Rahul and Arjun. The second half stand out for their brilliant conception, enactment and, of course, execution. Perhaps, the best part of the screenplay is that it is fresh and, therefore, not predictable, a quality very evident in the climax too. The film will make you laugh and cry but at the end you will have a smile on your face while leaving the hall.

Kapoor and Sons Review: Direction, Editing & Screenplay

Shakun Batra surprises once again with his mature direction in Kapoor and Sons. Though many will complain that the film will attract city audience only but there is no doubt that he has done an excellent job. He has handled the emotional family sequence very well. The editing is top notch.

The music by Amaal Mallik, Badshah, Arko has already become chartbuster. The songs like Bolna and Sathi Re are well written and composed. The cinematography and production values are also high.

Kapoor and Sons Review: Star Performances

♦ Sidharth Malhotra has done an excellent job. He is superb in scenes with his family. Definitely he has come a long a way from Student of The Year as he has delivered a much mature performance.

♦ The cross-border sensation Fawad Khan was pitch perfect in his unconventional role. His bonding with Sid was natural.

♦ Alia Bhatt once again shines in Kapoor and Sons despite the fact that she had little less screen time as compared to her last films. The Highway actress underplays her girl nex door character with such elan that one can’t but admire her.

♦ Rishi Kapoor is absolutely fabulous. His body language and facial expressions deserve distinction marks. Ratna Pathak Shah is just too lovely. Her acting makes her character so believable. Rajat Kapoor lends admirable support.

What's Good:

♦ Fresh Script
♦ Mature Direction & Screenplay
♦ Terrific Performances
♦ Music

What's Not:

♦ Limited Appeal

Kapoor and Sons Review: Last Word

On the whole Kapoor and Sons is slick, breezy and pleasant fare that should click with its target audience. It's an entertaining emotional family drama which you just cannot afford to miss. Go for it.

  1. Even Ek main aur ek tu got good reviews and actually was a good film but the reviews didn't translate in good BO numbers. The timing of the release is also not good and cannot expect the movie to do more than 45-50 crore.
