Hollywood horror film IT has smashed box office records during its opening weekend. The film has grossed a monstrous $117.2 million from 4,103 locations.
It has crushed the record for largest September opening set by Hotel Transylvania 2 in 2015 with $48.5 million and the biggest opening weekend banked by a horror or supernatural film. It is the second highest opening ever for an R-rated film behind only Deadpool. The film was also affected by Hurricane Irma otherwise the numbers could have been higher.
The film was projected to open to $65 million but it has collected almost double of that amount. It was not a summer or franchise release but the marketing for this movie was terrific. Meanwhile, the film is expected to collect around 6-6.5 crores in its opening weekend in India which is a decent number.
