It has been a yet another terrible weekend for Bollywood films. None of the new releases have been able to leave a mark at the box office. Instead, regional films have managed to fare much better than Hindi films.
Bhoomi has collected approx 2.25 crore on the opening day. The film was released in around 1900 screens but the numbers are disappointing. It was the comeback film of Sanjay Dutt but the actor is no longer a bankable star. Now the film will need a huge growth over the weekend to survive. The family audience generally comes on Saturday evening and Sunday which is its target audience. But it is yet to be seen if they will turn up for a film having too much voilence.
Haseena Parkar is even worse with opening day of 1.25 cr. The film was better in Mumbai but that is all about it as it was kind of a disaster in rest of the country. In North, the occupancies were so low that the shows were cancelled. There is not much hope for the film as this genre had died long ago.
Newton which is India's official entry to Oscars has collected 0.85 crore on the opening day. It will show good growth over the weekend thanks to the solid reviews.
