Anees Bazmee has been one of the most successful directors in Bollywood when it comes to the comedy genre. Films like No Entry, Welcome, and Ready were hugely successful at the box office. Now, the director returns again with another comedy film, Mubarakan.
The question is, will Mubarakan be greeted as enthusiastically by the viewers as the title of the film suggests…..not quite!
The promos of a film are the biggest indicator of how a film will perform at the box office, with the audience. Unfortunately, the two theatrical trailers of this film have been lackluster. The film looks terrible and outdated, looking a lot like another flop film from Anil-Anees from 2010, No Problem. It’s a shame really, given how entertaining their 2005 flick No Entry was.
Anil Kapoor impresses little with his comedy, while Arjun Kapoor looks dull at times. Some of the lyrics of the songs are atrocious too, such as the constant “boyfriend bana le” part in the Hawa Hawa song.
Really, I don’t even know what more I can add!
Mubarakan will take a poor opening due to the lacklustre promos. The music of the film hasn’t really seemed to pick up either. Arjun Kapoor films usually take a decent opening, but those films had popular heroines, which is not the case this time. His last film, Half Girlfriend, opened at 9.27 crore nett, with contributing factors such as Shraddha Kapoor’s presence (huge factor), Mohit Suri as a director, Chetan Bhagat novel, and popular music. Mubarakan doesn’t have any of those factors, so I expect it to open at around “half” (the irony) of Half Girlfriend’s opening. As a matter of fact, just how Munna Michael last week opened slightly higher than Tiger-Sabbir’s first film together from 2014 Heropanti (6.62 crore nett compared to 6.51 crore nett), I expect Mubarakan to open just slightly above No Problem from 2010. The lifetime collections will be similar too, or maybe even below No Problem! (which collected approx. 28.48 crore nett).
From the first day itself, the negative public word-of-mouth will come into effect and the collections will start to decline. Besides, the film only has one week to perform until Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Harry Met Sejal releases.
My Box Office Predictions for Mubarakan:
Mubarakan to the team of this film, and to the Hindi film industry, for yet another big flop!
