It was in 2016 when Baaghi released and became a popular hit with the masses! The film, starring Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor, became took a terrific opening for a film starring a non-established male lead (Tiger was only one-film old at the time), as it raked in 11 crore nett, that too on a non-holiday! Of course, factors such as Shraddha’s presence and popular music also contributed to the huge opening.
Flash forward two years later, and the sequel is all set to hit the screens. Although there is a lack of a popular heroine and popular music this time, there is no doubt that the film will get a huge opening. The film has the sequel/franchise advantage going for it, as well as the fact that it releases on the national holiday, Good Friday. With a terrific opening, half of the battle is won. The other half of the battle will be won as well, as the film seems very mass-appealing and will be well-appreciated by the mass audience. There does not seem to be much in the film for the class audience, but there doesn’t need to be, as this is a desi masala film that can run at the box office on the strength of single screens and mass centres!
The makers seem confident about the product as well, as they have already announced Baaghi 3 and opened advanced booking as early as Sunday for Baaghi 2, which is something usually reserved for big event films. It is easier to trust Nadiadwala’s confidence, as most films under his production tend to do well at the box office.
Yes, there has been controversy regarding the popular 90s song Ek Do Teen that was recreated for this film. However, as the saying goes, controversy creates cash. It has made the film gain more awareness, attracted more eyeballs towards the product. I do feel that the audience in mass centres will enjoy seeing Jacqueline Fernandez in this song.
Overall, I feel that Baaghi 2 will emerge Tiger’s highest grosser till date….without a shred of doubt!
My box office predictions for Baaghi 2:
