Box office clashes are becoming a norm in Bollywood. Few days back Akshay Kumar postponed his upcoming film Toilet Ek Prem Katha to 11 August which resulted in a big clash with SRK-Anushka's untitled film.
Now Akshay Kumar has to taste his own medicine. Aamir Khan's Secret Superstar has now been postponed to Diwali 2017. It will now clash with Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth's Robot 2.0.
Secret Superstar is a small film and will not pose much of a threat to magnum opus to 2.0. In fact, it might face troubles to get screens, especially in South. The initial will also be lower as compared to Akshay starrer.
Robot 2 is a South Indian film but Akshay Kumar's presence will boost the collection in North where he has his core fan following. Thus Robot 2 will open better in Hindi belt. Aamir Khan's Taare Zameen Par clashed with Akshay Kumar's Welcome in 2007. Both films did good business and lifetime collection was almost in the same range despite Welcome taking a much higher opening. So Secret Superstar can obviously succeed.
Is this a calculated move by Aamir Khan? Well it looks like as Secret Superstar was a content driven film and August had too many biggies.
