Aishwarya Rai To Play Sarabjit Singh's Sister In Biopic

A lot of speculations had been doing the rounds regarding who would play the role of Dalbir Kaur in the much talked about Sarabjit Singh biopic which is being directed by Omung Kumar. The role of Dalbir Kaur was offered to Sonakshi Sinha, Kangana Ranaut, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra but Aishwarya is the one who bagged it!

Dalbir Kaur is the 61 years old sister of Sarabjit Singh who fought for her brother. Sarabjit Singh crossed over to Pakistan in 1990 and was mistaken for an Indian spy by the Pakistani government. While he was sentenced to capital punishment, but he was not hanged. He was tortured in prison and kept in jail for 23 years. At last he was murdered by inmates a few days after the death of Afzal Guru in India.

Dalbir, who was Sarabjit’s elder sister, spent many years of her life trying to get her brother released and clear his name. Sarabjit was more like a son to her and her defeat in being able to bring her brother back to India is one of the most crushing stories that will now be told on celluloid.

The biopic is being directed by Omung Kumar who has earlier directed Priyanka starrer Mary Kom. Aishwarya has given her consent to play the role. Will she do justice to this powerful story? Tell us what you think.
