A Gentleman Day 1 Box Office Collection Update: This Friday saw the release of A Gentleman, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz, Qaidi Band and some other small films. There were also two Hollywood releases The Hitman's Bodyguard and The Dark Tower. As expected none of these films have managed to even get a decent initial.
Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez starrer A Gentleman has opened with 15% occupancy which is a poor start. It was an action film so the initial has to be there as it will not have that normal evening growth which is associated with content oriented films. This was expected as the promos did not generate much interest and there is a lack of star power.
The first day numbers will be poor and it will require excellent growth over the weekend for even reasonable numbers. But looking at the early response, it seems an uphill task. The other release Babumoshau Bandookbaaz starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui also had a slow start of around 8%. Just like Bareilly Ki Barfi and other small films, its fate depends on word of mouth. The third release Qaidi Band is a washout on the day 1 itself.
From the holdover releases, Annabelle Creation has maintained a solid pace in the second week as the collections are strong in down South and Mumbai. In fact it is running neck to neck with A Gentleman at some places despite a much lower screen count. Toilet Ek Prem Katha will be steady but at lower levels on its 3rd Friday.
It was a partial holiday for Ganesh Chaturthi but that has not helped much. Also the business will be affected in Punjab, Chandigarh and Haryana due to the clashes after Ram Rahim Singh verdict. Reportedly many theatres have been closed fearing violence.
